Enhancing Community Safety: The Cross-County Summit Connects Project Update - April 4, 2025

In today's world, public safety is vital. The "Summit Connects" project aims to significantly improve safety infrastructure throughout Summit County. This update details the progress made as of April 4, 2025, covering ongoing work in several municipalities, challenges faced, and future efforts to enhance public safety for all. As Summit County Council President and District 1 Representative, I need to share these updates. I want us to stay connected. Please read the below updates you can always find these on  co.summitoh.net/summitconnects

Project Overview

The Summit Connects project involves the installation of conduits and sewer scoping across multiple communities within Summit County. Managed by various contractors, this initiative is designed to increase connectivity and enhance safety measures with minimal disruption to residents.

In this update, we'll look at specific work occurring in each municipality, the contractors involved, and the expected next steps for each area.

City of Stow | Project Update

In Stow, restoration work is advancing steadily. The contractor, Haas Brothers, plans to return in spring to finalize conduit installation, which is vital for improving the city’s infrastructure. This installation is part of a larger goal: enhancing safety for the community’s 16,000 residents.

Residents should stay updated on potential traffic interruptions. For instance, last month, minor delays were reported due to weather, affecting about 10% of local traffic. Residents can stay informed through local channels.

Village of Silver Lake | Drilling Project Completed

Progress in Silver Lake has been considerable. Drilling along Kent Rd. has been completed. ProSource will return this spring for conduit installation. This work will directly benefit over 4,500 residents, enhancing road safety and reducing local traffic mishaps by an anticipated 15%.

Community cooperation is crucial during this stage. Residents are encouraged to follow construction signs and stay informed about any changes that might impact their daily routine.

Twinsburg Township | ProSource Update

Twinsburg Township is also seeing significant improvements. ProSource is diligently working within the area and will return this spring to complete final restoration efforts. With a focus on enhancing public safety and connectivity for approximately 8,000 residents, the community’s patience during construction is appreciated.

For the township, this project is expected to reduce emergency response times by 20% once completed. Such enhancements will make the area safer for all residents.

City of Twinsburg

Conduit installation has been ongoing along Darrow Rd. and Aurora Rd. in the City of Twinsburg. ProSource is set to continue their work next week. Residents are reminded to remain vigilant about temporary changes in their routes during this time.

The dedication of contractors is pivotal. They are helping ensure that each segment of the project contributes to a safer environment for the entire community.

City of Reminderville

In Reminderville, work has picked up momentum. Haas Brothers began installing conduit on Glenwood Blvd. However, some delays arose due to unidentified existing conduits underground. These delays highlight the importance of thorough planning, as the total duration of these issues could extend timelines by up to 15%.

Once resolved, work will quickly resume. Residents should closely monitor updates for this critical infrastructure improvement.

City of Tallmadge

Tallmadge has seen significant progress with sewer scoping on North Ave and conduit installation along South Ave. Haas Brothers is scheduled to continue their efforts on South Ave next week, working diligently to keep downtime to a minimum.

This commitment to community safety is evident as local officials report a projected 25% decline in traffic-related incidents once the project is complete.

City of Munroe Falls

In Munroe Falls, sewer scoping and conduit installation is taking place along Munroe Falls Ave. Haas Brothers will continue these efforts next week. The involvement of the community is essential; adherence to construction advisories will help facilitate the project's success.

With proactive measures, the project aims to improve traffic flow and overall safety for the city's population of over 5,500 residents.

City of Hudson

In Hudson, contractor GPRS has completed sewer scoping along Hudson Dr. and will continue scoping down Nicholson Dr. Conduit installation has also progressed along Hudson Dr., with Haas Brothers returning next week to further the work.

This project is part of a broader strategy aimed at increasing safety and connectivity, which can lead to a 30% increase in pedestrian safety in the area.

Summit Connect Project Update Importance for Community Awareness

Community awareness is essential as the Summit Connects Project updates and progresses. Residents must adhere to all posted warning signs and remain mindful of construction activities. Utility locater flags and project signs are reminders of ongoing work, and their integrity should be maintained.

Keeping lines of communication open with the community will foster a smoother process and ensure that everyone is informed about ongoing efforts.

Upcoming Work and Expectations

Work on the Summit Connects project is dependent on weather conditions and may change accordingly. However, the diligence and professionalism of contractors inspire confidence that the project will meet its objectives regarding improved public safety.

Residents should stay connected through official communication channels, such as local government websites and community meeting notices. Engaged communities are better informed and can better navigate any potential impacts on their daily lives.

Moving Forward Together

The Summit Connects project marks a significant commitment to public safety in Summit County. The collaborative efforts of contractors, local officials, and residents are paving the way for safer, more connected communities.

As we advance, open communication, community patience, and teamwork will be crucial to the project's success. Regular updates and a willingness to share feedback will ensure a positive experience throughout all phases of the project. Together, we can make Summit County a safer, thriving place for everyone.
